Setting up PayPal Express Checkout

PayPal is a popular payment system worldwide that offers online shoppers an alternative checkout option called PayPal Express Checkout. Using this option, customers can add items to their shopping carts, check out on a secure PayPal payment page, and automatically return back to the store.

In order to enable a PayPal Express Checkout button in your online store and make it work to accept payments from your customers, follow our instructions provided below. Remember that only customers who have a personal PayPal account will be able to use this checkout option.

Obtain a PayPal business account

Go to http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_home-merchant&nav=2, click on "Create Account", and follow the instructions of the account creation wizard.

Configure your PayPal business account

  1. Log in to your PayPal Business account.
  2. Click on the "Profile" navigation tab.
  3. Click on the "API Access" link under the "Account Information" caption.
  4. Click on "Get Started" under the "Request API Credentials" caption.
  5. Click on the "API signature" radio button under the "Credential Type" caption.
  6. Complete the "API Credential Request" form and click on "Submit".

Note: The parameters in text fields are provided as sample values and should not be copied to your own online store configuration.
Note for UK merchants: WebAsyst Shop-Script currently supports integration with PayPal Express Checkout for US merchants only (integration was developed and tested with US-based PayPal Express Checkout business accounts). We plan to implement support for PayPal Express Checkout UK in the future.

With the PayPal Express Checkout payment option enabled, the PayPal Checkout button is displayed under the regular checkout button in the storefront. When that button is clicked on, information about products added to the cart is passed to PayPal, and customer is redirected to the PayPal website to pay for the order.
