Accessing messages from external mail boxes

WebAsyst Mail allows you to access your email messages which were sent to your mail accounts (mail boxes) hosted on other mail servers: yahoo.com, gmail.com, aol.com.

Email accounts hosted on other servers will be referred to as external. For each external address a separate folder is created in the "Inbox" section. New mail is checked for automatically once a minute. When new messages arrive, the name of the corresponding mailbox appears in bold.

WebAsyst Mail does not actually retrieve messages from an external mail server, but merely detects the fact of their arrival, reads message headers and displays them to user. If you open a newly received message by clicking on its title, WebAsyst Mail retrieves the body of the message. However, the message itself will stay on the external mail server and will still be available through the web interface of the respective mail service or a desktop email client, e.g. Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook.

WebAsyst Mail allows performing all basic operations on the messages received from external mail servers:

  • viewing messages and attached files;
  • replying to the sender or forwarding to other addresses;
  • deleting or moving to a folder in WebAsyst Mail for permanent storage (these operations will remove the message from the external mail server).

Why would I need to access my messages from external servers?

As a rule, each email service offers its own web interface for handling mail. However, using a single point to access all your correspondence is handy in the following situations:

  1. If you usually work with your mail using Outlook installed on your office computer, and leave for a business trip, you do not have access to your office computer any more. In this case WebAsyst Mail will ensure your access to all the necessary mailboxes from any computer connected to the Internet.
  2. If you need to share a business correspondence with your colleagues for collaborative processing. WebAsyst Mail allows you to customize access rights to each folder for every user or user group.
  3. And finally, it is a good solution if your mail server simply has no web interface or its interface is not very user-friendly.
