Upgrade to the new version

Instructions for users of Shop-Script FREE, PRO, PREMIUM.

Is it worth to upgrade?

Definitely, yes.

WebAsyst Shop-Script was released in beta status on April 18th 2008 and since that time was tested on many hosting platforms worldwide.

Many users of Shop-Script PRO and PREMIUM already upgraded to the new version successfully.

Note that system requirements changed.

We were working on new WebAsyst Shop-Script during last two years.
New version was developed on the basis of Shop-Script PREMIUM, and obtained many new benefits. We actually created a new shopping cart engine, which powers WebAsyst Shop-Script now. New version became more powerful and more convenient to use than its predecessor Shop-Script PREMIUM. Core conceptual changes in WebAsyst Shop-Script are — full multilingual support, multi-user backend, built-in design editor, automated scripts update system. WebAsyst Shop-Script now powers hosted service that allows creating online store instantly, without have to install scripts on your web server.

We united two major software projects of our company — Shop-Script shopping cart software and WebAsyst collaboration software. Now these products are integrated and can be used together.

New version is better!

  • 45+ new features.
  • Both storefront and backend became easier to use for you and your clients.
  • New shopping cart engine integrated with other WebAsyst applications — now your online store capabilities can be increased with other WebAsyst applications.
  • Multi-user — give your friends and colleagues access to your store backend. Access rights are highly customizable.
  • New scripts update technology allows you to update software on demand right from web browser (no need to download and update scripts manually anymore).

Terms and conditions

  • We offer all customers of Shop-Script PRO and PREMIUM access to WebAsyst Shop-Script for free until September 1st, 2009 (one year from today).
  • Access to updates after September 1st, 2009 will be paid (after one year from today).
One additional year of access to updates after this date can be purchased at $74 (25% of the original purchase price).
  • We continue support of Shop-Script PRO and PREMIUM until September 1st, 2009 (one year from today), however these products are no longer available for purchase. This means, that we still continue to provide technical support to our users. In case new bugs or malfunctions are discovered in PRO or PREMIUM we will fix it and publish update patches. We will not be adding new features to these products.
Customers of PRO and PREMIUM have access to purchased products in WebAsyst Customer Center.

How to upgrade

The process of upgrading from Shop-Script FREE, PRO or PREMIUM to the new WebAsyst Shop-Script is not fully automated. We automated transfer of all data from the older Shop-Script store to WebAsyst, but we were unable to automate transfer of your storefront design changes to the new cart (new template structure is used in WebAsyst Shop-Script).

We offer free access to the new version for customers of Shop-Script PRO and PREMIUM, but do not offer upgrade service — if you want to switch to the new version, you do it yourself. However, if you do not wish to install scripts yourself, you may order paid installation service for $50 (please contact support to order custom installation service) which includes installation of WebAsyst Shop-Script on your web server and transfer of data from your present Shop-Script store to the new one. Design customization is not included (we do not provide design customization services).

This is how to move to the new WebAsyst Shop-Script:

  1. Install WebAsyst Shop-Script on the same server where your current Shop-Script online store is installed. Install in a parallel to your present Shop-Script installation (in a separate folder on the same server, e.g. subfolder). Do not install in the same folder!
    View detailed WebAsyst installation instructions.
  2. Copy all data from your present Shop-Script installation to the new WebAsyst Shop-Script. This can be done using WebAsyst Installer (run http://webasyst_url/installer/). Script will copy all data including orders, customers, products and categories, store settings. Your present online store is continuing to work without interruptions.
  3. Tune storefront design of the new WebAsyst Shop-Script. Do whatever you like with WebAsyst — test it, see how the software works, try changing look & feel and so on. Design structure in WebAsyst Shop-Script differs from template structure of present Shop-Script, that is why fully automated update is impossible. We designed new Shop-Script's look&feel such that it will allow you to get future software updates without having to tune your storefront design each time you update, however now it requires to manually switch from present Shop-Script to WebAsyst if you like the new version.
  4. Replace older cart with the new one. Finally replace your present Shop-Script store with the new one. To do this — delete all files of your present store (empty entire folder) and then copy all files of the newly installed cart (which you already installed on step 1) to this folder.

Then go to WebAsyst Installer "Common settings" screen and update "Full installation path" setting. Done — your new storefront should be working now.

We recommend you to transfer all data from your older Shop-Script store to WebAsyst right before replacing scripts (as you did on step 2).

Should you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Search engine traffic will not change.
When you switch to the new version, your product and category pages in storefront (index.php?productID=123, index.php?categoryID=321) will be handled by the new version correctly, so your search engine traffic will not change.

If present Shop-Script and new WebAsyst are on different servers.
In other words, if you install WebAsyst to another physical web servers, and wish to transfer all data from your present store. It is possible.

  1. Using phpMyAdmin create a full dump of your Shop-Script database and save it as a file on your computer. phpMyAdmin tool is offered by the majority of hosting providers all over the world.
  2. Import this MySQL dump file using phpMyAdmin hosted on the server, where new WebAsyst Shop-Script is installed.
  3. Perform data transfer using WebAsyst Installer as described in the instructions above. Since you are one physically different servers, you will have to move all product image files manually. Download all files from products_pictures/ folder of present Shop-Script server to your local computer, and then upload them to the new server by FTP (published/publicdata/[databasename]/SC/attachments/products_pictures/ folder).
